Love it or hate it, Facebook probably takes up a lot of your time. You’ll soon find out, if you haven’t already, that the designers are working on a new look for the ole social networker. Here are some of my first reactions:
They’ve definitely cleaned up a lot of the clutter, but on the Home page there is a lot of blank space. It sort of looks like a page that can’t quite get all the way loaded. I might like this more after I use it for a while. It just seems lopsided or something.
The cleanup does look great at the top of a Profile page, though.
The photo is bigger, and all the annoying applications are contained in a drop-down menu at the top. Also, they’ve prioritized the Wall, Info, and Photos into tabs. These seem to be the main draws of the Profile pages anyways, so that’s a nice feature. This will mean a lot less scrolling. There’s also more options for personalizing what you want to show up and what you want to hide.
There are some parts further down the page that are still quite confusing to look at. When I see this I feel like I’m going to pass out:
Everything is very white and close together, as you can see.
Anyways, I hope the transition is smooth and they find a balance between the cluttered parts and the empty parts. Look for it to transition from just an option to the only option soon.
Remember, I’m no designer, so maybe my aesthetic tastes are just old-fashioned. Let me know what you think. Just type in new.facebook.com to check it out yourself.
